Me buzzed out on two 30 inch Dell monitors

Instead of photographing for the past few weeks, I’ve been doing a lot of staring at digital files. I’ve upgraded to a new computer with Windows 7 and upgraded my second monitor to now equal my primary monitor, so I’ve got two 30 inch monitors side by side. There is a little bit of learning, tweaking and a lot of file transferring going on. Not to mention that the first monitor arrived with smashed glass, the replacement has a bad pixel line, so I’m now waiting for the 3rd one. If you are one who cares about the computer details, here is the machine specs:

Dell Studio XPS 8000
Studio XPS 8000, Intel Core i7-860 processor (8MB Cache, 2.80GHz)
8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz-4x2GB
nVidia GeForce GTS240 1024MB GDDR3
500GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive 7200 RPM
Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit, English
16X DVD+/-RW
Two, 2 TB hard drives

The next hurdle, once I get all the programs operating is to deal with color profiling on the monitors. And no, I really don’t edit or grade files in a dark room, but the photo looks better.

Andrea L - Wow, that is a nifty setup.

Eli Mitchell - I find it interesting that you use a Windows platform, when most pro photographers and graphics designers tend to use Mac. Why is this?

Patrick - Eli, I started with a PC many years ago and am invested in the platform. There is the ongoing argument about which is better and for what reasons. There may be fewer frustrations with a MAC, but I have not owned one so I can’t compare.

Sam Chadwick - I see from the image in the bottom right that you’re still doing the ‘hands in the air’ pose – awesome! (Not on thin ice this time though!) Sam

Patrick - Hey Sam,
I see you have been keeping busy with a camera, and getting around. Great to see. Sweet arctic fox shot on your web page :-) And yes, the pose . . ., we thought of you this year as Bob and Marcia joined us again and remembered the posing on thin ice shots.
